Week in Review: Honor Lists and Ledyard's Nurses are the Tops

The Ledyard Regional VNA announced that it has been named to the a compilation of the top-performing home health agencies nationwide, for the fourth year in a row.

“This is huge, especially now with Medicare changes and the cutbacks down the road,” said Karen Goetchius, the Administrative Supervisor for LVNA.

Patch met Tina Jenkins, owner of Mirror Image Salon and Day Spa. When asked what she loves most about her career, Jenkins responds with a ready smile and says “making someone look good and feel good is awesome.”

Jenkins worked for quite some time at Fantasia in Mystic earned a great reputation and after someone asked, “why don't you open your own shop?" she said she had never thought about it and then, two months later decided to go for it.

Jenkins, a Ledyard High School graduate, has been running Mirror Image for fourteen years.

“I think everyone should change something (about their look) every season,” she said. Whether it be a new cut or color Jenkins said she loves to help people transform themselves and make them say “wow.”

Finally, the third suspect in the 2011 Marla Drive home invasion has been charged. Vincent A. Sebastian III, 21, of Norwich, was charged Thursday with home invasion/robbery and threatening. He was held on $150,000 bond on this case, although he is currently being held at Corrigan-Radgowski in Uncasville.

And, the Municipal Building Committee met to discuss two very important construction projects although neither of which are anywhere close to decided.

The committee has narrowed down their prospective locations for the police station from four to two at Monday night’s meeting. Members agreed to have the architect draw up two conceptual site plans for a police station at the old Ledyard Center firehouse next to Town Hall and at the transfer station on Al Clarke Road (off Route 117).

And the middle school renovation continues to develop. Architects have made drawings for a wing for sixth graders.

The middle school honor lists and the high school honor lists were released this week. Check ‘em out for familiar names, there are a lot!
