Congratulations to students in the Class of 2012! More than 200 students received a diploma Saturday, and pass the link to friends and relatives who couldn't attend.

This week's heat wave was less than that, it was more of a heat spurt because it was hot and humid but not for long. According to the World Meteorological Organization, the definition of a heat is “when the daily maximum temperature of more than five days exceeds the average maximum temperature by 9 degrees.” Another definition is “a period of abnormally and uncomfortably hot and usually humid weather, according to Wikipedia, which notes that there is no set definition of a heat wave. In any case, the National Weather Service issued a weather advisory for the hot days this week and .

And, April Brunelle, a Gales Ferry artist unleashed monkeys, poodles, snakes and dragons in Mystic this week. In fact, no matter where she is she can whip up a party with princesses, penguins, monkeys and sword fights because she’s a balloon artist. .

Another Gales Ferry resident made the news – District Tuesday and his primary focus will be getting the state's fiscal house back in order.
