It's Summer! Grab A Book!

Register for the summer reading program this week at the Bill and Gales Ferry libraries.

The song goes "No more pencils, no more books," but we don't really mean the part about the books. In fact, summertime makes some of the best reading time!

Ledyard Schools participate in the Governor's Summer Reading Program. The theme this year is Dig Into Reading. You can download the journal to log all the books you read by clicking here.

The Ledyard Public schools have great lists of suggested reading for children in kindergarten through fifth grade:

2013 Summer Reading Assignment for Students Entering Grades 6 – 9

The schools worked with the town libraries on creating the lists, and many of the books are available at the libraries.

You can visit the Bill Library in Ledyard Center or the Gales Ferry Library in Gales Ferry.

The libraries are running Dig Into Reading programs — registration began Monday. From the library website:

Read to Me Program for ages 5 to entering first grade.

Dig Into Reading! for kids entering second to sixth grades.
