Police Arrest Man Dressed In Camo And Carrying Weapon In Woods Near Dow Chemical

Ledyard Police also looking for public's help in identifying a man who broke into a house on Windward Lane.

July started out busy for the Ledyard police, as officers arrested a man wearing camouflage and carrying a knife in the woods near Dow Chemical, and are also investigating a foiled home break-in.

At 11 a.m., Monday, Ledyard Police Department was contacted by the Dow Chemical Corp., on Route 12 in Gales Ferry, according to a press release from Lt. Michael Finkelstein. A man who was wearing camouflage clothing walking along the railroad tracks towards their facility, they reported.

Responding officers chased the man into the wooded area near River Drive in Gales Ferry and then arrested him. Finkelstein said it remains under investigation and the suspect did not indicate to police what, if any, his plans were.

Francisco E Ramirez (DOB 02/18/1991) of 7 Barry Drive, Gales Ferry, was charged with Criminal Trespass, Breach of Peace, and Possession of a Dangerous Weapon. He is being held on $5,000 bond and will be presented at GA 10 in New London. 

In the other incident Monday, a homeowner on Windward Lane called police just before 1:30 a.m., to report that "a large white male" entered their home through an unlocked door. The man fled after the homeowner yelled, the press release said. Officers searched the area, and called in Officer Kempke and K9 Lambeau to assist, to no avail.
