What Do You Think: State Senate Could Kill Death Penalty

If abolished, the people on death row now will still be put to death if the law passes.

xMonths after convicted killers for their role in the brutal Cheshire home invasion, state senators will vote today to abolish the death penalty.

If the vote passes and is signed into law by Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, existing death penalty cases would be unaffected. For future cases the death penalty would no longer be an option.

According to the Wall Street Journal, 34 states use the death penalty and in the past five years, three states have voted to ban the punishment. Only one person has been executed in Connecticut since the punishment was reinstated in 1973. Michael Ross, a serial killer who preyed on young girls and women, was executed in 2005.
