Updated: East Lyme Game Rescheduled

Colonels To Host Vikings Friday at Mignault Field

With its ECC medium title secure, the Ledyard High School football team will continue its quest of a playoff bid Friday at home against the Vikings of East Lyme.

The game, originally scheduled for Thursday, was rescheduled.

The 4-3 Vikings have had their problems this year, but are currently riding a two-game win streak. Ledyard Coach Jim Buonocore said East Lyme is always a test.

“East Lyme is a pretty solid football team. They have good size, they come right at you in terms of what they do on offense and defense,” he said. “We’re going to have to buckle up our chin straps and be ready for a hard, physical football game.”

The Vikings started the season with wins over Bacon Academy and St. Bernard before dropping three in a row, to NFA, New London and Fitch. During that three-game stretch they were out-scored 107-18.

Buonocore said numbers can be deceiving.

“They’re always a good football program in terms of producing solid teams year in and year out. They’ve got a couple of really good players in key spots. They’re coming off two wins, over Griswold and Woodstock, and I think they’re coming into this game feeling pretty good about themselves.”

Ledyard won the ECC medium title last Friday with a win over Waterford. The 6-1 Colonels need two more wins to secure a probable playoff bid. They can earn a home game in the tournament by winning their last three games.

They hope to get one of those wins tonight.

“We’re excited for the challenge,” Buonocore said. “It’s another opportunity for us to go out and show what we’re made of.”

Game time is 6:30 p.m. at Mignault Field.
