Gallup Hill Read-A-Thon Winners Honored At Special Lunch

Mayor, superintendent and others join young readers for lunch.

Fourth grader Joshua Gray, fifth grader Sarah Moynihan and sixth grader Carina Wang logged a combined 181 hours of reading in 20 days. The three were honored at a luncheon and, in keeping with the read-a-thon's "Oh, The Places You'll Go" theme, all were engaged in conversations about places they have travelled.

Joshua Gray logged 3,865 minutes of reading and said he has been to Yellowstone National Park and his favorite book was "A Wrinkle In Time".

Sarah Moynihan logged 3,785 minutes and said that she has been to a Red Sox game and that her favorite book was the last book of the "A Series of Unfortunate Events" series.

Wang logged in 3,265 minutes and said she has been to Shanhai, China about 10 times and that her favorite book was "Percy Jackson & The Olympian: Lightening Thief".

The Read-a-thon was also a fundraiser for the Cafetorium project and in total, raised about $1,800 for the purchase of lunch tables to be used in the gym/auditorium.

Gray, Moynihan and Wang are the three students who read the most during this read-a-thon. Below is a list of top readers in other grades:

James Damian, Pre-K, 2,880 minutes.

Caleb Gray, kindergarten, 2,826 minutes

Thomas Cornell, first grade, 1,662 minutes

Rebecca Gray, second grade, 2,744

Arianna Nutter, third grade, 3,170 minutes
