Ledyard Students Finish 3rd at Quahog Bowl

Annual Competition Tests Knowledge of Marine Science

The Ledyard High School Ocean Sciences Bowl Team competed in its seventh Quahog Bowl on Saturday, Feb. 5, at the University of Connecticut at Avery Point, finishing third out of 16 teams from Connecticut and Rhode Island.

Ledyard High School science teacher David Bednarz, who coaches the team, said for the second time in three years Ledyard won the sportsmanship award. “This shows that Ledyard kids not only are smart and talented, but also are gracious winners and losers,” he said.

The Quahog Bowl tests students' knowledge of marine science. The question-and-answer format is modeled after the College Bowl and High School Bowl television academic quiz shows that began airing in the 1960s.
